The cost of substance abuse treatment has always been high and often out of reach for those who most need it. Today with costs rising and medical insurers decreasing benefits for drug and alcohol treatment, the need is more acute than ever. And even when the costs of treatment have been met, there are always needed incidental costs that can make the difference between a new sober life and relapse.
Several years ago, theeffect established Vanessa’s Fund, a scholarship fund to help subsidize the cost of drug treatment for qualifying families. The fund is named in honor of Vanessa Porter, a beloved member of theeffect community who died of an overdose in 2010.
Donations to the fund are tax deductible through theeffect, a 501c3 corp, and all funds donated to Vanessa's Fund are administered under a separate account and are never commingled with theeffect's general fund. Every Vanessa's Fund dollar goes to those who need it for detox, treatment, sober living, travel expenses, medical, dental, and personal needs while in treatment, and other such expenses.
